
The beaches in the area are some of France's best beaches. The closest beaches are Lafitenia (beside the villa), Mayarco and Grande Plage which has four beach clubs. Watersports such as surfing, sailing and windsurfing are available.
The Basque coast is one of the top destinations in Europe for surfers from all over the world. Lafitenia beach, overlooked by the villa, hosted the 1999 and 2000 Quiksilver World Masters championships. There are plenty of surf schools, camps and equipment hire shops for those who want to learn.
This is a great way to explore the rustic villages and the beautiful countryside and nature. There are good coastal paths near Saint-Jean-de-Luz and also the extensive Pyrenees to hike in.
Soak up the Basque culture by visiting a chocolate tasting factory in the cultural capital Bayonne. Explore the many picturesque countryside one-street villages and sample local produce from the farmers market in Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port. Visit Bilbao, renowned for its culture, superb gastronomy and the Guggenheim museum.
The Pays Basque has a long history of golf dating back to the early 19th century and with 11 golf courses including the famous Le Phare it is a renowned golfing destination. We would be happy to arrange tee off times for you at one of the clubs.
Saint-Jean-de-Luz is a spa town and the area is well known for thalassotherapy which is a treatment with salt water, seaweed and algae and works for anything from migraines to rheumatism to sprained ankles. There are several spas to indulge in this in the town.
There are plenty of activities for children at the villa and in the area such as pony trekking. The nearby beaches are excellent for families and have pedalos for hire and children's clubs. We can also arrange for a nanny or babysitting.
Saint-Jean-de-Luz has some pretty boutiques in the winding streets of the historic old town just 50 metres from the beach. There are also daily markets selling local produce. There is a wider range of shopping nearby in Biarritz and San Sebastian.
The Pays Basque area which spills over into the north of Spain has incredible food and wine from the vineyards of Bordeaux to the restaurants of San Sebastian which is home to more Michelin Star restaurants than any other European city. We would be happy to arrange a table reservation for you.
The Pays Basque is a vibrant area and very proud of its heritage and traditions. Local festivals throughout the year include the Fete de Saint Jean, the Fete du Thon and Le Rallye de la Mer. Pelota is a fast and exciting sport played both here and internationally and you can spectate at a game.
